Rental Registration/Inspections

Rental & Landlord Registration

*** IMPORTANT: ATTENTION LANDLORDS***

The State of New Jersey enacted P.L. 2021, c.182 on July 22, 2022, requiring rental dwelling units constructed prior to January 1, 1978 to be inspected for lead-based paint hazards (unless otherwise exempt under the law). Please carefully review these NEW requirements and resources at the bottom of the page.

The Rental & Landlord Registration Process is completed on an annual basis. 

Property owners who previously submitted an application will receive the following year’s renewal registration application sometime in late fall annually.

Residential Rental Property Registration Form MUST be returned with the following items:
1.) Completed Application (typed or printed neatly)
2.) $100 Rental Registration Fee per unit (cash or check made payable to: Township of Maple Shade)
3.) Copy of Insurance Policy showing $500,000 in liability coverage OR $300,000 in liability coverage if property owner resides in the multi-family property
4.) Copy of Lead-Safe or Lead-Free Certificate (see “Lead Evaluation Contractors” link below for a list of State of NJ Approved Lead Contractors/Inspectors)
5.) $50.00 Lead Certificate Filing Fee (cash or check made payable to: Township of Maple Shade)
5.) Annual Rental Inspection
(a required annual rental inspection will be performed by a township inspector & scheduled by the Rental Program Coordinator)

Landlord Registration Form MUST be returned with the following items:
1.) Completed Application (typed or printed neatly)
2.) $25 Landlord Registration Fee per unit (cash or check made payable to: Township of Maple Shade)
3.) Copy of Insurance Policy showing $500,000 in liability coverage
